Marine Plywood, or Marine Ply as it’s commonly known, is a special type of plywood designed to resist degradation or delamination in environments of high moisture. Using glue similar to exterior plywood (water boiled proof) each veneer is engineered to allow for a smaller core gap which aids water repulsion and reduces moisture retention. Commonly sold in 4′ x 8′ sheets, applications are extensive but frequently used in the marine, boatbuilding, DIY and construction industries. When looking at getting some Marine Ply, one should check that it’s standards compliant, usually BS 1088 – the British standard for marine grade plywood.
